Several weeks ago we paid the obligatory 25,000 Riel ($6.25) per ticket to tour the Royal Palace compound in Phnom Penh. It was built in 1866 and sits on a tract of land about a half-mile square. There are a variety of buildings, "most of which include magnificent sculptures and are characterized by many tiered roofs and topped by towers which are symbols of prosperity." It is located near the intersection of four rivers: the upper Mekong, the Tonle Sap, the lower Mekong and the Tonle Bassac. Hope everyone enjoys the following five photos--nothing spectacular but does give another glimpse of life in Cambodia.
